Terms of Service
The short version: we turn your documents into data, we use that data for nothing except giving it back to you, and anything you store with us is encrypted and deleted on a schedule you control. Details below; privacy specifics live in the privacy policy.

These terms are an agreement between you and Kismet Software LLC, a Utah limited liability company doing business as Tax Doc Scanner (“the Service”, “we”, “us”). They govern your use of the Service. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
1. What the Service does
You upload or photograph documents — tax forms, receipts, statements, and notes — and the Service returns structured data or a transcription of what it read. Our browser extension can then populate web forms with that extracted data, using field mappings you define. It is a transcription and data-entry tool: it reports what is on the page and flags what it can’t read. It does not prepare, compute, or file tax returns.
2. Your documents and extracted data — use
We use the content of your documents for exactly one purpose: producing your result. Document content and extracted data are never used to train or improve any model (ours or anyone else’s), never used for marketing or advertising, never profiled or analysed, never sold, and never disclosed except as required to provide the Service or by law. Our product analytics measure anonymous page-level usage only and are never connected to your account or your documents.
Processing by our AI provider. To read your documents, we transmit them to Google’s Gemini API under Google’s paid-tier terms, which provide that submitted content is not used to train or improve Google’s models and is processed under a data processing agreement. That transmission is a necessary part of the Service.
3. Storage and retention
Scanning alone stores nothing. For a plain scan, uploaded files are held in memory only long enough to process the request; once your result is returned, the upload and the result are discarded. They are not written to our databases and not logged.
Organization storage is opt-in and encrypted. If your organization enables encrypted storage and you choose to save a scan, the extracted data is stored encrypted at rest under a key held for your organization — including the listing metadata. Stored documents are deleted automatically after your organization’s retention window — 72 hours unless your organization’s administrators set a different window (from 1 hour to 1 year). Deleting an organization’s encryption keys renders any remaining ciphertext permanently unreadable.
Account data we keep. Your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), page balance, purchase records, and a security audit log of account activity (logins, verification, document access — never document content). Payment card details are handled by Stripe and never touch our servers.
4. Accuracy — you must review the output
Automated extraction can be wrong. The Service may misread a figure, miss a field, or misclassify a document, and the browser extension fills forms with extracted values as extracted. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying every result — including every value the extension places into a form — before filing, submitting, or otherwise relying on it. Nothing the Service produces is tax, legal, or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for professional judgment.
5. Your account
Keep your credentials secure and provide accurate information. Logins are protected by a second factor: a verification code emailed to you. You are responsible for activity under your account and for the security of API tokens you mint. One free page grant is available per account; abusing sign-ups to obtain multiple free grants is not permitted.
6. Pages, packs, and subscriptions
Scanning is prepaid in pages: one page is consumed per image or PDF page scanned.
Personal packs are one-time purchases, billed through Stripe. Purchased pack pages never expire.
Organization plans are monthly subscriptions billed through Stripe. Each plan provides a pooled monthly page allowance shared by the whole organization. The subscription renews and charges automatically each month until cancelled; the allowance resets at each renewal and unused plan pages do not roll over. You can cancel at any time through the billing portal; after cancellation you keep access to any remaining pages until they run out, and you are not charged again. Prices are shown before you subscribe; we may change pricing prospectively, never retroactively.
7. Self-hosted and on-premise deployment
Tax Doc Scanner is also available for self-hosted and on-premise installation, where the software runs entirely inside your own environment and your documents never reach our infrastructure. Licensing, support, and a deployment-specific data processing agreement are arranged through sales@taxdocscanner.com.
8. Acceptable use
Use the Service only for documents you have the right to process, and don’t attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or overload it, or use it to break the law.
9. No warranty; limitation of liability
The Service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions, filings, or submissions made in reliance on the Service’s output without the review section 4 requires. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above and, for material reductions in your rights, notified to the email on your account. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
